Corny Locomotive....

July 8 Jack and I decided it was one more time to get some turns out of the epic snowpack our local mountains were still holding onto. We headed north to Railroad Pass on the hottest day of the year....

Donnelly creek was scenic....

Our prize.... Locomotive Mountain....

We summited at noon!

The turns were creamy....

Summer skiing hazards were avoidable...

August turns?

Oh Canada....

This is somewhat of an overdue blog as it took place Canada Day long week-end a few weeks ago.
Danielle and I have made a point of celebrating Canada and what it means to us by riding deep into the Southern Chilcotin mountains on this annual trip. The tricky part this year was the day before we left we packed up our former lives in North Vancouver and made the move to our new home in Squamish. So after waking up after our hectic moving day we packed up our bikes and headed north.

The morning was a bit chaotic.

But once we were flying over the Hurley Pass we were able to relax and head towards the sunny Chilcotins...

The drive up Relay was spectacular as usual....

We set up camp with a great view of Relay and Teepee Mountains....

Refreshments were well deserved...

Canada Day!

I did my best to blend into the forest....

Nearing Graveyard pass the views opened up!

The historic Graveyard Cabin welcomed us.

We found a great spot to set up camp.

Danielle found proof we were standing on an ancient sea floor now 1900m above sea level and very far from the coast.

The next day we made our big traverse back to the truck.

A solid effort for our first bike overnighter of 2012....

Tenquille the hard way....

There's no question the Tenquille trail took a beating after the massive wildfire raged over it a couple of summers ago. The soil became fragile and washed away for the most part revealing mainly rock. The other issue is the soil is way more fertile now and by mid summer the trail all but disappears into the jungle like greenery limiting your speed by bike to a conservative descent. I think I figured out the best time to hit this trail is now. Both of these issues are minimal as the summer emerges. The only real drawback is the meter or so deep snowpack on the traverse into the forest. Once we got past that it was one of the better descents on the trail since the fire. Summer alpine rides here we come! Slideshow

Pleasant pedalling conditions on the old Hurley....

The Upper Lillooet looked ready to burst!

Some of the traverse in the forest was snow free....

Luckily when we reached Wolverine Creek the bridge was intact.

The Tenquille Creek crossing was a little chilly. The good part was how warm you felt when you got out and onto the snow.

As soon as we got to the burn the descent was juicy!

Danielle and Drey showed off their DH skills all the way to the Upper Lilloet.... A great day out in Pemberton!

Last shore day....

Last Sunday we got a small break in the weather so we headed up Cypress to ride the classic Sagar trail. It was one of those rides that defines a "Shore Ride". Wet, cold and slick. As it turns out this will be one of our last rides on the Shore as NS residents which bummed me out a little. Next week we'll be calling Squamish our home. The good news..... Squamish Single-track is good.....
