The Other Shulaps Traverse....

My quest to always find the next best alpine area to ride our bikes led us back to the Lillooet area a few weeks ago. The Shulaps Range is an area I've become very familiar with but there's a lot more to it than the small part we'd been sessioning. I had no idea if it would go or what the terrain would be like. The one thing I did know however was it would a brutal climb on one of the hottest days of the year. We would be starting very low and the climb would be upwards of 1800m on day one. Thanks to mining efforts I knew an old track existed.

Two years ago a fire raged here and opened up the views.

It's really interesting to see what wildfires do to the forest. We were in awe of the destruction and the beauty of it.

After around 5 hours up we got some big views of the other side of Rex Mountain.

And the old mine road I had my sights on.

After another 2 hours we arrived at a virtual alpine paradise we would call our campsite.

Step one... chill the beverages.

Step two.... enjoy the view.

The best way to spend a hot summer day is with a cold Central City Red Racer "Winter" ale by the lake.

In the morning we headed up into the alpine.

It was scenic.

High above Carpenter Lake.

Great view of Whitecap.

And Sloan and the Bridge Glacier.

Another new spot in the bank....
