With the countdown to winter on, the Whistler bike park about to close, the flooded tourist stream downgraded to a trickle, and every local from toddler to grandparent eagerly waiting for the first big snowfall, it only seems right to feed the anticipation with a weekly diet of ski and snowboard film premieres. Tis’ the season to get stoked!

As the calendar flips pages from September to October, the Whistler Arts Council has set the stage for one of the best local get-stoked events. Showcasing mountain life and the people who live it, the Whistler Arts Council is hosting a series of events revolving around Whistler massive backcountry, the culture attached to it, and the people invested into it.

Photographers include Brad Slack, Cam Hunter, David Bishop, Geoff Jansen, Mark Gribbon, Marcus Richardson, Nick Vail, Pat Mulrooney, Russel Dalby, Rueben Krabbe, Steve Andrews, Sean St. Denis, Vince Shuley, and Zoya Lynch. Good luck to each of you!

Other events happening during Out of Bounds include the Prior Snow topsheet reception (Oct. 5), the film premiere of Burton’s “13” (Oct 12), and second in the series of Whistler Debates (Oct. 29) hosted in partnership with Whistler is Awesome and the Whistler Museum. The Alps of Pemberswiss....

Last Saturday am was one of the hardest days to drag myself out of bed this year. I arrived home from the Interbike show in Las Vegas at 2:30am the previous evening. We got out of bed at 6:00am and scrambled to pack our bags for an unknown overnighter. Colin showed up and we headed north to the fabled Pemberswiss Alps.

             
On the way up we followed some roads.

 
There was evidence man had been here before.

 
There was fungus among us....

After a few hours we found single-track gold! Another alpine ride within an hour and a half of home....

Soon the views really opened up and the bigness of this place showed itself to us.

We founds a sweet spot to set up a high camp to position us for the next day.

The sunset was epic!

So was the beer and the star filled sky!

 
The next morning we perked up a brew and took in the views.

We set off for the day to get higher into the alpine.

Where were we!

The trail soon petered out so we continued on foot.

We found an oasis....

 
There were alpine sharks present.

Danielle figured she'd never get another opportunity to swim with sharks so she did.

 
On the way out we picked some juicy looking lines for the upcoming snow season. See you soon....

A flight with the Sky Pilot...

The Sky Pilot is one of my favourite Squamish landmarks. Every morning on my commute it calls out to me as I pass under it. There isn't a better spot to get 360 views of Howe Sound and the community of Squamish.

       

After a short bike ride and hike above tree line we set up a high camp.

The views from the top were amazing as usual....

These guys set up camp on the true summit of Sky Pilot.  

From this vantage our camp looked inviting....

Cool views of the Judge and Meslillooet.

A unique angle of Tantalus and Alpha.

And Mountain Lake and hut.

On the way back to camp the clouds started to roll in and the light fired up....

Life is good.....

After a few showers and some stormy moments we were greeted by a starry sky.

It the morning winter arrived....
